Audacity 4.0 Audio Editor Released With Qt6 Based UI

The longtime Audacity open-source audio editor had been using wxWidgets for years but with today's Audacity 4.0 release they have transitioned to using the Qt6 toolkit. Audacity 4.0 was just released today and it's been rebuilt using the Qt6 toolkit and bringing with it "many quality of life improvements". Beyond going from wxWidgets to Qt6, Audacity 4.0 introduces a new clip-editing model, clips can be easily grouped and placed more freely, splitting has a new dedicated tool, and a variety of other UI/UX improvements. In now using Qt, there is also better HiDPI support and other modern enhancements. Audacity 4.0 is using the new .aup4 project format. Existing .aup3 files can still be opened in Audacity 4 and converted to the AUP4 format. Downloads and more details on today's Audacity 4.0 audio editor release can be found via GitHub. In addition to the source code are AppImage Linux binaries available along with macOS and Windows binaries too.
