Ateneo, Smart unaware of Aurora activity until after tragedy — Remulla

The tragic drowning of Ateneo de Manila University student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili in Aurora has revealed a major oversight: neither the university nor telecommunications company Smart Communications knew about the training activity before the incident. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized that the event was conducted without Ateneo's knowledge. This lack of awareness underscores the importance of clear communication and oversight in organized activities, especially when involving student-athletes, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
