‘At least eight shot’ after gunman opens fire ‘at random’ outside school in Turkey in horror attack

AT LEAST eight students have been injured after a horror shooting outside a school in Turkey, it is reported. A gunman opened fire, shooting at random into a group of pupils early on Tuesday morning. An urgent manhunt was launched after the suspect fled the scene. He has since been apprehended by security forces. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! CCTV footage caught the assailant running down a side street carrying a large shotgun. The Manisa Governor’s Office said: “Following the incident, the suspect, who is believed to have fired the weapon, was apprehended and taken into custody by our security forces.” The armed attacker targeted students outside the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. Police and medical crews rushed to the scene shortly after 8am following reports of several injured students. After receiving initial treatment the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment. A huge crowd of panicked parents flocked to the scene after news of the attack spread. Most read in The Sun The governor’s office siad: “A judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident, and further developments will be shared with the public.” It comes just months after two fatal school shootings within 24 hours rocked Turkey. A former student opened fire at a high school in the Sanliurfa province on April 14, injuring 16 students and teachers. The gunman later turned the firearm on himself. A day later, a 14-year-old killed nine people and wounded 13 others in grim a rampage in the southern province of Kahramanmaras. The 8th grade student arrived at the school armed with five guns and seven magazines in his backpack. He was also killed, although it remains unclear if his death was self inflicted. The motive for the shootings, which took place across two classrooms, was not immediately known.
