The crash involved a Renfe train and another operated by the company Iryo that were running on the Madrid-Seville line. According to Renfe, train 2080 collided with Iryo 6076 on the approach to Urda station. The two rear carriages of the Iryo train derailed, while emergency services were heading to the scene of the accident. The collision forced rail traffic to be suspended in both directions on the high-speed line between Madrid and Andalusia, according to the Rail Infrastructure Administrator (Adif). Emergency services in Castilla-La Mancha activated an assistance operation, deploying Civil Guard officers, firefighters, Civil Protection personnel and medical staff. They also began work to set up an advanced medical post to treat those affected. The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, announced that he was travelling to the crash site and that his government was suspending its planned activities. The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, also cancelled their engagements. Renfe announced that passengers affected by disruption to services between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalusia would be able to request changes and cancellations free of charge.
