Patch 1.0.8 introduces New Game Plus, Nightmare Mode, and more Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake goes out with a bang in final major update Image: Ubisoft Singapore Ubisoft just announced some good and bad news about Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. On the plus side, the game’s newly released 1.08 patch is its biggest yet, with new modes, gameplay adjustments, and more. Unfortunately, though, this will be the game’s “final major content” update, with its development team focusing on quality-of-life adjustments in the coming months. The patch was released on Oct. 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. EDT. What's in patch 1.08 of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced? One of the biggest new modes added to Black Flag Resynced is New Game Plus, which lets players replay the game's main story while keeping what you’ve earned. The patch notes outline that the following will carry over between playthroughs: All of Edward’s tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons, and trinkets. All the Jackdaw’s upgrades, unlocked officer abilities and pets. Officers will not physically be on ship and need to be recruited again All money, materials and trade goods from inventory. There is a new currency used for NG+ Quest-related items will be removed All unlocked customizable outfits and their options. Hideout progression, perks, and art collection. All Kenway fleet ships. However, forts will need to be taken over again as the map’s fog will be reset. Codex items including each treasure map, acquired and completed. Items purchased from the store. Beyond letting players keep their booty, each New Game Plus playthrough makes the game more dangerous. Elite Soldiers and max-rank ships appear more often. The difficulty ratchets up through five subsequent playthroughs. New Game Plus playthroughs also introduce a new currency that’s earned by completing challenges and looting previously raided chests. Players can exchange Reales for Escudos, which lets them buy new outfits and items exclusive to New Game Plus. Black Flag Resynced also just got a new Nightmare Mode. “No second chances. No mercy,” the patch notes read. “Nightmare Mode transforms Black Flag Resynced into a brutal fight for survival where every duel can be your last. Enemies react faster, hit harder, and punish hesitation. The Caribbean is as beautiful as ever, but beneath the waves and beyond the horizon, death awaits the unprepared.” Like the game’s other difficulty settings, you can apply Nightmare Mode to combat, stealth, naval combat, and activities; to summarize the specifics, enemies hit harder, stealth is more challenging, ships take extra damage, and wild animals are deadlier. There are also more goodies beyond these two major modes, including new community chests meant to be discovered through online collaboration, fresh takedown animations, additional cosmetics, and a long list of bug fixes. How was Black Flag Resynced received? Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remake of Assassin's Creed 4 that was released on July 9, 2026. It was developed by Ubisoft Singapore, which worked on the original game and helmed development on the disastrous pirate sim Skull and Bones. Black Flag Resynced racked up positive reviews that praised its graphics and faithful approach to a beloved game, although it was criticized for being a bit of an unnecessary remake given the original Black Flag came out only 13 years ago. Resynced sold over 3 million copies in its first week. Despite this success, Ubisoft recently laid off 70 employees at its Singapore branch “to align the studio with upcoming production needs.” It seems even game studios that put out successful releases for their corporate overlords can't catch a break right now.
