Since 2007, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise has been a key component of the video game world, and with fourteen mainline entries under its belt almost two decades later, it is safe to say that many of us grew up with the action-adventure series that tasks us with joining the Assassin Brotherhood during their history-spanning feud with the Templar Order. Whilst some entries have not lived up to expectations, others are widely regarded as some of the best video games of all time, introducing us to some iconic figures such as Ezio, Connor, and Edward. With Ubisoft just releasing the long-awaited Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, talk has turned to what is next, and with many believing that Assassin's Creed Hexe will mark the next mainline entry in the franchise and take players to the 16th century Holy Roman Empire, hype is understandably building. In the meantime, however, there is another Assassin's Creed-themed release to look forward to: Assassin's Creed® Animus - The Board Game. Created by Mantic Games, this upcoming board game combines the history of the beloved Ubisoft franchise with a true TTRPG experience by offering 1-4 players the chance to "step into the shadows as legendary Assassins. Explore the past, strike down targets, and race to make your mark on history." Now available as a Kickstarter campaign with 2,828 backers already pledging a whopping £274,425 to help bring this project to life, Assassin's Creed® Animus - The Board Game is expected to begin shipping this October and will see players take on the role of a legendary Assassin who must hunt Templars through stunning locations. "Assassin’s Creed: Animus is a game of adventure and rivalry, where each player enters the memories of a legendary assassin with unique abilities and goals," the official description reads. "You'll choose a character with their own era, skills, equipment, and playstyle that shapes your experience." By stepping into your ancestor's memories, you will be able to hunt your target and race other players to become a master Assassin, all whilst spending actions to move across the board, investigating special locations to learn their secrets, and most importantly, seeking out your enemies. Featuring miniatures of some of Assassin's Creed's most iconic characters, ranging from Assassin's Creed all the way to Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and even the painfully underrated Assassin's Creed Liberations, this upcoming board game is a must-have for any fan, and it will not be long before backers will finally get their hands on the finished product.
