This marks the first time the retailer intends to redevelop an established store site and “represents one of the largest land deals of the last couple of years”, according to the firm. In addition to the new store, more than 1,500 new homes have been proposed for the site, with around 500 of these set to be sold as affordable housing. The town centre development would also include new restaurants, shops, fitness facilities and a community hub. Ian Lawrence, head of mixed-use developments at Asda, said: “This allows us the opportunity to better serve local communities like Park Royal, with a new flagship store fit for the future, whilst creating windfall sites for housing delivery.” Work on the planning application is already underway and set to be submitted later this year. Asda added that its existing Park Royal Superstore would remain open while work is carried out on the new store development.
