The new format is separate from Asda’s existing Asda Express estate, which is wholly owned by the retailer. Instead, Asda Convenience will work with established independent retailers through a wholesale partnership. The stores will stock around 3,500 products, including Asda’s own-label goods, fresh and chilled groceries and food-to-go options. Shoppers will also get the same value-focused pricing associated with Asda’s larger stores. The trial stores will allow the supermarket to test how the concept could be expanded across the country. Joseph Sutton, Asda Express, fuel and wholesale director, said: “Launching Asda Convenience is an important step in extending our reach and making Asda’s great value accessible to more customers in the way they want to shop today.” Most read in Money From a customer’s point of view, Asda said its new Convenience stores will look and feel like a traditional Asda, with its value-focused prices, familiar product range and recognisable in-store experience.
