Now, rival grocer Waitrose is set to open a new store based on the site of the former Asda. Waitrose is expected to open in autumn later this year, but no exact date has been confirmed yet. A spokesperson for Asda thanked the Hale Barns community for their support. They said: “Like all major supermarkets, we regularly review our store estate to ensure it continues to meet customer needs and remains commercially sustainable. “We’d like to thank our colleagues and the local community at our Hale Barns store.” Customers in the area wanting to shop at Asda have been redirected to the nearby Altrincham and Wythenshawe stores, which are a 15-minute drive and 10-minute drive away respectively.
