ARTE Europe Weekly: Cancer Increase Among Young People Causes Concern

Studies show that an increasing number of young people are being diagnosed with certain types of cancer in European countries.People in their 20s and 30s are taking to social media to share their experiences with cancer and how the diagnosis turned their lives upside down. Early-onset breast and bowel cancer are on the rise, particularly in Western countries. Researchers point to lifestyle factors and changes in the environment as the cause, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. So what are EU countries doing to tackle it?This programme is produced by the European platform ARTE and available in 10 languages through the European media partnership BEAM. The hub is coordinated by ARTE and includes Balkan Insight (BIRN), Sinopsis (BIRN Romania), El País (ES), Gazeta Wyborcza (PL), Internazionale (IT), Ir (LV), Kathimerini (GR), Le Soir (BE) and Telex (HU). The partnership receives EU-funding following DG CNECT’s call for European Media Hubs within the framework of the EU’s Multimedia Actions.
