But Arsenal would have to splash the cash to buy the Brazil international from Real, with new manager Jose Mourinho unwilling to part with the team’s biggest names. That means Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would have to revert to extravagant contracts within his squad. That was something Arteta eradicated upon his first year in charge at the Emirates back in 2019, when he swiftly axed the likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who earned north of £350,000 per week. However, Bukayo Saka recently put pen to paper on improved terms, which see him bagging about £365,000 per week. That might soon become the norm, as the Spanish tactician wants to hold onto the key players that led to Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years last season. Arteta could also do with some improvement up front with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli linked with exits after Leandro Trossard’s departure, which led to Christos Tzolis’ arrival. Barcola, 23, has also been linked with Liverpool but neither Premier League giant has made a serious bid.
