Arsenal ‘keen on shock transfer for Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha, 18, after missing out on Vinicius Jr and Julian Alvarez’

ARSENAL are reportedly eyeing Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha. That’s according to The Athletic, who say the Gunners were lining up a shock move in the summer. Liverpool are keen to get the dangerous and direct winger to sign a new long-term deal. But they spent £123million this summer on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who plays in Ngumoha’s preferred left-wing position. And, unsurprisingly, the Gunners are among a host of clubs keeping tabs on the situation. David Ornstein said: “I think there is some interest from Arsenal in Rio Ngumoha. “There’s surely interest from lots of clubs in him, because he’s such a precocious talent. “I did hear over the summer that they like him. They’re allowed to like him; that’s their prerogative. It doesn’t mean Liverpool are going to sell him. He’s 18 and tied down at Anfield until 2028. “I don’t know of an agreement yet on a new deal, so clearly that’s something they’ll try to progress.” Arsenal have been left short-handed in attack after losing Gabriel Martinelli to Saudi side Al-Hilal. Mikel Arteta was desperate to add more firepower and was in for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr, before realising the Brazilian was using the Gunners to get a new Bernabeu deal. While Atletico Madrid‘s Julian Alvarez also snubbed a move close to the deadline. Ngumoha has only scored twice for Liverpool, but it is his skill and trickery on both wings that makes him such an attractive option. Ornstein continued: “I heard Arsenal have some interest in him, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with him and Liverpool because there is no suggestion he’s unhappy there. “What will be really interesting is to see how much game time he gets at Liverpool, because wingers are the big thing for Andoni Iraola. “You would expect him to be a real asset for them. Let’s see how it develops.” Comment now
