Armed man arrested near White House after saying he heard voices telling him to kill Trump

A man found sitting in a parked car near the White House with three firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition has been taken into custody and charged, the U.S. Secret Service said.Officers made the arrest Thursday night after approaching the vehicle, according to a Homeland Security statement. The man in the car was Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, U.S. officials said. They say he described voices in his head telling him to come to the nation's capital and kill President Donald Trump. The statement said the suspect was “acting suspicious” when officers approached him. Soon afterwards, officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen.Markwayne Mullin thanked the Secret Service following the arrest (Reuters)The arrest is the latest in a series made by the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies against individuals who have threatened Trump or his family members' lives since he returned to office last year.Homeland Security described Chrinos as a migrant from Venezuela who is in the country illegally after entering the U.S. through Texas in March 2024.DHS said he has been charged and currently remains in U.S. Marshals Service custody. The White House did not provide comment, instead referring to DHS and U.S.S.S.“Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone,” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in the statement. The arrest comes in the wake of disastrous midterm results for the Republican Party and Trump.Trump responded on Friday by announcing that chief of staff Susie Wiles is out and Stephen Miller is taking her place in the White House.Wiles, who has been rumored to be leaving the Trump administration, becomes the highest-profile figure to lose her role after the Republican Party’s disastrous midterm results. In her place, Miller will bring his hardline immigration reform. The poor showing in the midterms has also left some Republicans questioning the future and looking for someone to blame.Republican John Sununu lost in a Senate race and noted that voters said in 2024 Trump ran on a campaign of no new wars and draining the swamp. But, Trump went to war with Iran and there are allegations of his family benefiting from his time in office.“And those two things, I think, caused people to say, ‘You know, I just can’t vote for a Republican while he’s still in office,’” Sununu said.
