Archana Puran Singh's son breaks silence on Samay Raina's 'nalla' joke

Samay Raina’s jokes about Archana Puran Singh’s family, and calling the men of the house "nalle", on India’s Got Latent 2 sparked a debate online, with some viewers feeling the comedian had crossed a line. But the family at the centre of the jokes did not see it that way. Archana’s son Aaryamann Sethi, who was sitting in the audience during the episode, has now defended Samay and said neither he nor his family was offended.Speaking on the family’s YouTube channel, Aary Vlogs, Aaryamann said he normally stays away from such discussions but wanted to speak up this time because he found the jokes funny. He also felt viewers were taking offence on the family’s behalf when there was no need to.“I don't usually say anything about all this, but I thought we should say something this time just because I feel it’s funny. The joke was also funny because, to be fair, when we vlog, we are at home only, so that’s not wrong and my mother also laughs for a living. People watching comedy have become too sensitive. It’s a joke,” he said.Aaryamann also made it clear that he did not believe Samay was trying to hurt or insult anyone in the family. “First of all, let’s just point this out: it was a joke. And it’s okay. He did not mean to hurt me or anyone in my family,” he said. He added that he understood why some people felt a line had been crossed, but questioned why others were getting more upset than the people involved. Aaryamann also revealed that Archana and Samay speak twice a day and share a good relationship. He said he too shares a close bond with the comedian.Watch the clip here: Archana, meanwhile, said she knew exactly what she was signing up for when she appeared on India’s Got Latent. She was familiar with the show’s humour and did not take Samay’s comments as a personal attack. She also compared it to her equation with Kapil Sharma, who frequently jokes about her on his show.“I didn’t personally get offended by anything,” Archana said.She also had a message for those who were upset on her family’s behalf. Archana asked viewers not to feel bad or offended for them, saying the comments were made to create a moment of laughter.“He just wanted to create that one moment of laughter for everybody. For me, that was the intent of that punch. I have no regret about Latent,” she said.What did Samay Raina say?During the episode, Samay took aim at Archana’s family, including her sons Aaryamann and Ayushmaan, calling them "nalla" (useless). Referring to their family vlogs, he joked about their work and said, “In your vlogs, I have seen that neither your husband works nor do your two idle sons work. They are sitting right here.”Archana immediately played along, pointing towards her sons and saying, “I had told you earlier not to sit in the front row. This is not how you get fame. This is how you get humiliated.”Samay continued with another joke about Archana’s family, saying there was “reverse patriarchy” because she was the only one working.The exchange soon became a talking point online, with some viewers criticising Samay’s jokes.
