Arca has officially announced that her new album, XXXXX, is set for release on July 31st via XL Recordings. Marking the Venezuelan-born polymath’s first full-length since her KiCk pentalogy, the 16-track XXXXX sees Arca gazing inward, embracing “contradiction as a core methodology,” according to a press release. It is also described as “excavat[ing] vastly different emotional landscapes to deliver a body of work that is darker, more aggressive, more experimental, and unwilling to settle into fixed form.” Ahead of the release, Arca has revealed she will preview the album this Thursday, July 23rd with a “Diva.Experimental” livestream broadcasting from across seven locations in Barcelona. Directed by Daniel Sannwald and styled by Akeem Smith, the two-hour performance premieres on Twitch and YouTube at 9:30 p.m. CEST. Since surprise-dropping KiCk IIIII in December 2021, Arca has remained prolific. Over this past year alone, she has unveiled the double single “Puta” / “Sola”; remixed tracks for Addison Rae, Robyn, and Hikaru Utada; teamed up with Tokischa on “Chama”; and contributed production to Madonna’s Confessions II.
