(Photo: ITG)Zoho-owned messaging platform Arattai has introduced an optional Aadhaar-based identity verification feature aimed at reducing impersonation and fake accounts on its platform. The company says the feature allows users to verify their identity through the Aadhaar app and choose to receive messages only from verified users if they prefer. Alongside this, Arattai has also announced a set of new privacy and security features, including encrypted chat backups, phone number protection in groups, and improved meeting controls. The company says the new verification system works through the Aadhaar app and does not require users to share or store their Aadhaar details on Arattai. Once verification is completed, verified profiles receive a permanent green badge. The feature is optional and is available on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac versions of the app.Aadhaar verification is optionalTo use the feature, users need to open their profile settings, tap the "Get Verified" option, and complete the verification process through the Aadhaar app. According to Arattai, users can then choose to receive messages only from verified accounts, helping reduce unwanted spam and impersonation attempts. The platform already uses different verification badges to identify account types. While standard verified users receive a blue badge, official government accounts are marked with a grey badge. The newly introduced green badge is reserved for users who complete Aadhaar-based verification. Jeri John, Global Product Head at Arattai, said, "The consumer messaging landscape faces a severe crisis of trust, driven by sophisticated impersonation and digital fraud that compromises daily interactions for users. By introducing an optional Aadhaar verification layer, we are delivering a reliable space without adding unnecessary friction to the user experience.”New privacy tools also announcedApart from Aadhaar verification, Arattai has introduced several new privacy-focused features. Individual chats and broadcasts continue to use end-to-end encryption, while users can now create encrypted backups of their chats on Google Drive and iCloud using a personal password or recovery code. The app also now lets users hide their phone numbers from unknown members in public groups. Businesses can generate Click to Chat links that allow customers to start conversations directly, while group administrators can permanently delete inactive groups along with their chat history. For meetings, Arattai has added virtual waiting rooms, allowing hosts to approve participants before they join. Another new feature, called Screen Security, automatically blacks out the app's contents when users switch between apps, helping prevent chats from being exposed during screen sharing.Arattai, which was first soft-launched in 2021, is available on Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and through a web version. The messaging app also supports 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, Gujarati, Odia, and Tamil.- EndsPublished On: Jul 30, 2026 16:11 IST
