Araghchi says Hormuz could be reopened within two days if conditions met

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Hormuz could be reopened within two days if Washington agrees to a set of conditions, including the formal recognition of the new shipping route designated by Iran and Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi said other conditions include lifting the sanctions the US imposed on Iran after the collapse of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) in July; reducing the US military presence in the region; reinstating the oil waivers granted in June as part of the MoU; releasing frozen Iranian funds, including those held in Qatar; formally recognising the new shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz, set by Iran and Oman, and closing all other routes and ending the war on all fronts, particularly Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. Araghchi told Al Jazeera that the plan currently under discussion is the one Iran originally presented at the beginning, known as the Iran seven-day plan, in which "we specified our condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz". "Our Qatari friends asked to cut this time window from seven days to five days or less, and we worked on this idea during the Qatari delegation visit yesterday,” he said. “We have now reached a plan that cuts the implementation time to two days. On day one, the US implements a set of measures. On day two, the Hormuz Strait will reopen, and navigation will be restored to what it used to be.”
