Araghchi calls for accountability over US use of Japan's airbase to attack Iran

Live Blog Update| War on Iran 30 August 2026 10:35 BST Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the Japanese public to hold their government accountable over reports that US military assets stationed in Japan were used in operations against Iran. Speaking to Kyodo News, Araghchi referred to reports that US Air Force F-16 fighter jets deployed from Misawa Air Base to the Middle East took part in operations against Iran. “The peace-loving people of Japan should ask their government to be held accountable for the crimes committed by the United States,” Araghchi said, arguing that Tokyo bears responsibility for how military facilities and capabilities based in Japan are used.
