Apple TV's Biggest Upcoming Sci-Fi Series Is Only 6 Months Away

As much as original ideas are welcome in the sci-fi genre, Apple has wisely decided to capitalize on worlds that audiences are already familiar with. In fact, several of its science fiction TV shows, including Silo, Foundation, and Murderbot, are adaptations of popular novels. Given the success of those sci-fi titles and more, the long-awaited Neuromancer, an adaptation of William Gibson’s groundbreaking novel, couldn’t be in better hands. First published in 1984, Neuromancer doesn't just tell a futuristic story; it's essentially the foundation of the cyberpunk subgenre, which has in turn inspired dozens, if not hundreds, of video games, TV shows, movies, books, and more. At Apple TV's San Diego Comic-Con panel, where ScreenRant was in attendance, it was announced that the series is set to premiere in early 2027. Neuromancer is already being positioned as one of Apple TV’s biggest and most ambitious projects to date, but it's also a massive challenge. After all, there’s a reason it hasn’t been adapted for film or TV since Gibson’s novel was published all those years ago. Thankfully, though, Neuromancer isn’t arriving in a vacuum. It’s joining a lineup that has already proven audiences are hungry for complex and visually appealing sci-fi narratives. Apple TV's Neuromancer Show Premieres January 22, 2027 Apple TV greenlit the adaptation of Gibson’s masterpiece novel in 2024. Following that announcement, some speculated that the series would be released in late 2026. While that date was close enough, Neuromancer is actually set to premiere on Apple TV on January 22, 2027. Starring Callum Turner as Case, Briana Middleton as Molly, and Mark Strong as Armitage, the series’ first season will include 10 episodes. Since Neuromancer is only one book, it remains to be seen how (or even if) Apple TV will continue the show once the source material has been covered. The first teaser trailer for Apple TV’s Neuromancer, unveiled at this year's SDCC, offers a striking and detailed glimpse into the show’s gritty cyberpunk world, revealing both its visual style and core story elements. The neon-drenched cityscapes of Chiba City are visually stunning and prove that the streamer has at least gotten one of Neuromancer’s most important elements right. The teaser also introduces Callum Turner’s Case, depicted as a burned-out hacker navigating Gibson's dangerous world. The razor-sharp assassin Molly is also in the trailer, with her presence hinting at the high-stakes partnership central to the story. Will 2027 Be Another Big Year For Sci-Fi On Apple TV? 2027 is shaping up to be another major year for science fiction on Apple TV, as the streaming platform continues to establish itself as one of the strongest destinations for the genre. The streamer is starting the year strong with its biggest show, Neuromancer. The adaptation of Gibson’s novel represents a different direction for Apple’s science fiction offerings, as this will be its flagship cyberpunk series. Beyond Neuromancer, Apple’s continued expansion of its genre catalog suggests that 2027 could be one of the strongest years for science fiction on the small screen. The sixth and final season of Apple’s hit show For All Mankind could potentially premiere that year. The fourth and final installment of Silo is also on track to release new episodes in 2027. During SDCC's Apple TV panel, creator and showrunner Graham Yost revealed that Silo season 4 will be released next summer; seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back (new episodes of Silo season 3 are currently being released weekly on Fridays until September 4). Apple's other returning sci-fi shows aren't as far along but could still arrive next year. Pluribus’ first season debuted in 2025. The second season is beginning to take shape, though it's unlikely the show will return before late 2027. The same is true for Severance and Murderbot. In May this year, Adam Scott revealed that filming was due to start "very soon" for season 3 of Severance. Meanwhile, there have been no concrete updates on Murderbot season 2. Obviously, Apple TV’s returning sci-fi TV shows have been hugely successful for the streamer, but Neuromancer will set the tone for the genre in 2027.
