Apple TV Crime Thriller Sets Official Release Window 1 Year After Being Pulled

The crime thriller series features Jessica Chastain as Jodi Godwin, who works to stop extremist attacks by infiltrating online hate groups under the name "the Savant." It was originally scheduled to premiere on Apple TV on September 26, 2025, but was pulled only days before on September 23. This came after the assassination of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk on September 10, and Apple TV releasing the statement that “after careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.” Deadline now reports that The Savant will debut in spring 2027. The exact release date is still being finalized, but the spring release window was reportedly chosen, so the series can be eligible for the 2027 Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite the show being finished and only days away from premiering when it was pulled, there was doubt about whether it would ever be released. Chastain did indicate earlier this year that Apple TV would release the thriller when sharing at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica that "Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it.'" At the time, Variety reported that it was going to debut in July, but a much later release window was ultimately chosen instead. The Savant is based on the real-life story chronicled in the Cosmopolitan feature "Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?" The article digs into the real figure known as the Savant, who infiltrates online hate groups in order to stop shootings and other extremist events before they can happen, just as Chastain's character does in the show.
