Apple responds to reports of iPhone Duo’s inner display cracking

Over the weekend, a handful of iPhone Duo users reported that their inner display had cracked along the hinge. In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple said it is “aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units,” and that affected users can contact AppleCare for a replacement. Here is Apple’s full statement: “The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.” The company says the problem affects a very small number of iPhone Duo units and appears to surface relatively quickly. Most iPhone Duo units are not affected. You do not need AppleCare+ to have your iPhone Duo replaced for this problem. If you bought from a carrier, you should contact AppleCare directly, not your carrier, to get your device replaced. Reports of the problem surfaced on Reddit and other forums over the weekend. Affected users report that the inner screens cracked along the center line of the hinge. While a number of user reports on Reddit showing the issue are legitimate, there have been a handful of fake AI-generated reports as well. The folks at iFixit have pointed to a few potential causes of the problems, with certain components potentially putting excessive pressure on the display.
