Raising the issue in the Upper House, Kharge said the Home Minister should "take accountability, apologise and resign" over the developments.Launching a sharp attack on the government, Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of maintaining silence over the student protests. He warned that if the government continued to ignore the concerns of students, they would "teach them a lesson once again."Kharge alleged that Amit Shah was directly responsible for the "atrocities" committed against students during the protests and said the Home Minister could not "hide behind closed doors" while evading responsibility. He also criticised the government for failing to place the "truth" about the July 20 incidents before Parliament. The Congress president further called for a time-bound annual academic calendar to ensure that students' education and future are not disrupted due to administrative delays or uncertainty. The proceedings also witnessed a fresh political confrontation after Kharge alleged that people associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were heading educational institutions and demanded their removal. His remarks triggered strong objections from the treasury benches. The House witnessed noisy scenes as members from both sides exchanged sharp words over the issue, adding to the disruptions during the proceedings. - EndsPublished By: Priyanka KumariPublished On: Jul 30, 2026 16:08 IST
