14.5/20Updated October 26, 2026,first published January 24, 2025A.P Bread & WineContemporary$$Heritage farmhouse meets natural wine hangout. All Purpose Bakery, co-founded by a group of mates including chef Mat Lindsay from Ester, and baker Dougal Muffet, is staking bread and pastry claims across the city, one postcode at a time.We love the mango and lemon myrtle cream “ferry” at the newer outpost in Manly, but this sandstone cottage near Oxford Street is where you can properly kick back with breakfast (warm scones; drowned eggs in chicken broth) or lunch (a blue mackerel sandwich on toasted shokupan or a beefy, cheesy patty melt) or proper sit-down dinner. This could well consist of simply an “AP happy meal” or two, featuring an ice-cold martini, three oysters and chips, but should really extend to the more serious stuff. Green beans and garlic butter clinging to ruffled regginette, say, the pasta coated in breadcrumbs, or a hunk of charcoal-grilled meat with sauces to write home about. It’s always worth taking a squiz at the cake stand and singular drinks list. We suspect a root-based amaro from Iseya Distillery in Japan would go brilliantly with a slice of 24-layer chocolate cake, if only you could squeeze it in.Must order: Any of Muffet’s breads and pastries, many of which look like they could have been baked in an ancient French farmhouse.Restaurant reviews, news and the hottest openings served to your inbox.Sign upGood Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
