ANTHONY GORDON had a day to forget as he missed a penalty in just his second Barcelona appearance – and his first in front of a home crowd. The England star made the switch to the Spanish giants from Newcastle ahead of the World Cup earlier this summer. But he had a tougher go of things as Barcelona hosted Egyptian side Al Ahly. He started on the bench for the fixture, but was introduced at half time in place of Raphinha, who had minutes earlier tucked away a penalty to give La Blaugrana a 2-0 lead. Zizo drew one back for Al Ahly six minutes later to make it 2-1, a scoreline which held until added time, when Gordon was given a chance to seal the game from the penalty spot. The former Everton star struck his penalty low and to the left, straight into the hands of keeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who pushed the effort wide. The game still ended 2-1, but it’s fair to say that Gordon might not be stepping up as the first choice the next time Barca are given a spot kick. Despite the friendly billing of the match, there were some unsportsmanlike scenes in the stands.
