Pictures Sign in to your Polygon.com account If you’ve been itching for a sci-fi dinosaur flick that isn’t Jurassic Park, here’s some good news: The End of Oak Street is finally coming to HBO Max, just a few short months after its run in movie theaters. The thriller from writer-director David Robert Mitchell and producer J.J. Abrams follows a suburban American family that finds itself in the prehistoric past when their entire block is inexplicably transported into the Mesozoic Era. Anne Hathaway — who headlined far more successful 2026 films The Odyssey, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Verity — and Ewan McGregor star as parents Denise and Greg Platt, respectively. Maisy Stella and Christian Convery play their children, Audrey and Brian. The End of Oak Street opened in theaters on Aug. 14, 2026, and eventually grossed $122 million globally against an estimated $80-92 million budget. It landed on VOD services like Prime Video on Sept. 15 and will be available on HBO Max starting on Nov. 13. Who directed The End of Oak Street? David Robert Mitchell wrote and directed The End of Oak Street. He's likelybest known for the haunting 2014 horror film It Follows, but has quite an eclectic filmography. Mitchell made his feature film directorial debut with the 2010 niche romantic comedy The Myth of the American Sleepover. After It Follows, he directed the noir thriller Under the Silver Lake for A24, which initially divided critics but has since gained a cult following, in part thanks to its layers of meta-clues and ciphers that encourage fan collaboration. As for The End of Oak Street, the film received generally positive reviews for its pulpy monster movie premise. J.J. Abrams produced the film through his company, Bad Robot, while Warner Bros. Pictures handled distribution (hence the HBO Max release). Bad Robot has several more films in the pipeline, with Abrams directing the upcoming sci-fi fantasy film The Great Beyond for Warner Bros. It will star Glen Powell, Jenny Ortega, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie follows a fantasy author who discovers that the world he created in his books is real. The Great Beyond is set for release on Oct. 1, 2027. Hopefully, Abrams can find some measure of redemption in his directorial return after last helming the truly horrible Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
