Angry Anderson, Frontman of Rose Tattoo, Dead at 79

Gary “Angry” Anderson, frontman of Australian rock legends Rose Tattoo, has died at age 79 after suffering a heart attack while on the band’s farewell tour in Europe last month. Anderson had returned to Australia following the cardiac arrest, but sadly passed away on Monday, September 21st. A statement posted on the band’s Facebook page reads: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson on the eve of Monday 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia. Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas. The family and band members are asking for privacy at this difficult time and will not be giving interviews. We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take time they need to grieve. We thank everyone for their prays and messages of love and continued support. With love, The Anderson family and Rose Tattoo Band. Stay young, grow strong.” Anderson co-founded Rose Tattoo in Sydney in 1976. The band was closely associated with fellow Australian hard rockers AC/DC, but never achieved the latter’s worldwide success. However, they developed a strong following in their native Australia, where they scored a number of hit albums and singles. After breaking up in 1987, Rose Tattoo reunited for a couple years in the early ’90s, before re-forming in 1998, and remaining active ever since. Anderson was also a member of the bands Buster Brown and The Party Boys, and he achieved modest international success with his 1987 solo ballad “Suddenly.” Our condolences go out to Angry Anderson’s family, friends, and bandmates during this difficult time.
