‘Angel’ mum, 28, and her two dogs were killed by dangerous drivers as they used pedestrian crossing, court hears

A MUM and her two dogs were killed by dangerous drivers while going over a pedestrian crossing, a court heard. “Bubbly” Laura Sone-Demetrious was crossing a busy road on her evening dog walk when she was run over by a car that allegedly fled the scene. The 28-year-old Arsenal fan, who worked in Tottenham Stadium, tragically died alongside her beloved pets on the A10 in Enfield, north London, in January 2024. Cops identified her body by her dog’s name tag. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Sedor Olmez and Roderick Mirzakhanian are in court accused of causing her death by dangerous driving. Olmez, 20, and Mirzakhanian, 31, both of Tottenham, north London, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today. Members of her family packed out the public gallery. After Laura’s death, her devastated family paid tribute to the “angel in disguise”. Her dad Peter wrote on Facebook: “This is the most unhappy day of my life, very early this morning I was awoken by a phone call from my youngest daughter to tell me, my oldest daughter has been run over and killed. “I keep hoping she will call again and say she didn’t mean it.” Most read in The Sun Her sister Gina said told the Independent at the time: “Laura was my oldest sister. She meant the world to me. “Laura was an angel in disguise. She was a very bubbly, outgoing and caring young lady. “She used to dance with or even without music. “She danced with her dogs and even spoke to them as if they were human. “She was loved by many, she was a family lady. It’s just very tragic how she passed.” In 2017, Nilgün Akgün, 44, also died as she tried to cross the same junction on the A10. Olmez wore a white shirt, patterned tie, and black jacket in the dock while Mirzakhanian wore a white shirt, and both spoke only to confirm their personal details in the short hearing. They were not asked to enter pleas. Olmez was also charged with driving a BMW that was uninsured in the incident on January 9. The chairman of a bench of magistrates told the defendants: “Look, we can’t deal with this today, it’s called indictable only, it’s so serious that it’s beyond our sentencing powers if you were to be found guilty.” Olmez and Mirzakhanian were freed on unconditional bail and told to attend the Old Bailey for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 4.
