Andy Reid on signing Justin Tucker to practice squad: "He's done his suspension"

Published October 28, 2026 04:56 PM Even before the Ravens cut Justin Tucker, which happened before Tucker accepted a 10-game suspension under the Personal Conduct Policy based on allegations of sexual misconduct at massage-therapy sessions, Tucker’s skills were declining. It’s no surprise, then, that he went nearly a year with only a smattering of tryouts and no offers. It was definitely a surprise when the Chiefs added Tucker to the practice squad. On Wednesday, coach Andy Reid was asked about the message he thinks the move sends to female fans in Kansas City.“Yeah, so he’s done his suspension, you know, and took care of that business there,” Reid said. “But I’ll leave it at that for you.”It’s unclear what “business” he took care of, other than serving the suspension. He strongly denied the allegations from the outset, even though he eventually accepted the suspension. Reid later was asked what goes into his decision-making process when giving an opportunity to someone who’s looking for a second chance.“I try to do homework on it,” Reid said, “and see exactly what has been — what’s taken place since, and, but, you know, I mean, the kid — he served a suspension. It’s been time. There’s been time involved with it, so that’s how I evaluate him.”Obviously, the Chiefs saw something in Tucker’s workout that made them believe it was worth taking P.R. flak for adding Tucker to the practice squad. It also helps that Reid has a fistful of Super Bowl rings and is the most accomplished coach currently in the NFL.Still, for the same reasons that plenty of Browns fans had (and still have) misgivings about the presence of Deshaun Watson on the roster, plenty of Chiefs fans will be feeling a little conflicted and confused about the decision to entrust a job in which supply far outweighs demand to someone with as much if not more baggage than any kicker has ever carried.
