Ferguson Jr Courthouse on Monday wearing tan jail uniforms and handcuffs. Andrew and Tristan, 39 and 38, shackled at the waist and ankles, spoke only when asked if they understood their rights, replying together: “Yes your honour.” Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The brothers were detained in Florida on Saturday as they arrived at a bareknuckle boxing event. Andrew faces 32 new charges, including seven relating to rape and 19 involving extreme pornography and indecent images of children. Tristan, 38, faces six more, including two rape and sex-trafficking charges. The brothers have been accused of choking women, sometimes until they fell unconscious, and then raping them. According to unsealed documents, Andrew allegedly repeatedly choked one woman until she passed out and then raped her at her home in Bedford in 2015. Another woman alleged Andrew visited her Manchester home before choking her to the point that “she was afraid Tate was going to kill her”. The alleged victim claimed he regularly choked her until she passed out, gave her a black eye and whipped her with a belt, causing welts and bruises. US prosecutors are seeking to extradite them to the UK – with a district judge set to consider whether they meet the conditions over the coming weeks. The Tates’ lawyer Joseph McBride confirmed that the brothers will fight the move. Speaking outside court after the hearing on Monday, he said: “Today was about enforcing Andrew and Tristan Tate’s rights and objecting to the extradition process. “We are of course objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent.” He claimed his clients are the victims of a “political witch hunt” and are being “attacked for what they say, not what they’ve done”. The lawyer also branded Britain “a fallen state that prosecutes its citizens for free speech” and suggested Donald Trump could intervene in the proceedings, saying “he was elected to fight against this kind of nonsense”. They shouldn’t be extradited for crimes they didn’t commit. “It’s garbage. It’s a stitch-up job.” He also said the extradition process would take “around 60 days”. The brothers will remain in custody in Florida until their next court hearing on July 27. Andrew and Tristan already faced 21 charges between them relating to three alleged victims, so will now be prosecuted for 59 allegations relating to seven women. The brothers have previously denied any wrongdoing. Mr McBride added: “We’ve never seen a scintilla of evidence that indicates that these guys are guilty of anything…You can love them, you can hate them, but nobody should go to jail for free speech, and that is exactly what this is about. “Make no mistake about it, the United Kingdom was once the greatest empire the world has ever known. It is a fallen nation. “It is a fallen state that prosecutes its citizens for free speech.” He added: “That is not what democracies and free societies do. That is what communist China and despotic regimes do. “And we’re going to fight them at every turn, at every corner, because they are American citizens.” The Tates were born in the US before moving to Luton as children. They are now based in Romania, where they were initially arrested in 2022. Comment now
