After departing the governorship ignominiously, then losing last year’s mayoral race to Zohran Mamdani, the former governor reportedly bought a $9.6 million four-acre compound in Remsenburg on Long Island’s South Shore in June, sources told the New York Times. (Politico, which first reported the purchase, noted that he paid cash for the property through an LLC.) It’s quite the spread. The main house, a 19th-century hunting lodge, is today a palatial nine-bedroom, nine-and-a-half bath, according to the listing. There’s a library and sunroom with wood-burning fireplaces and a detached five-car garage with hydraulic lifts Cuomo can fill with his collection of muscle cars. Out back, there’s a pool house and a sauna, a gym, a saltwater pool, and 234 feet of waterfront with docks, a beach, and a boathouse. Also, inexplicably, there’s “an old-fashioned windmill.” Rich Azzopardi, Cuomo’s spokesman, told the Times the former governor plans to sell the property’s empty lots, presumably for development, but will keep the house for a summer home. He also told the paper Cuomo still has an apartment in Manhattan. (During the mayoral race, he lived in a Sutton Place apartment that was once his daughter’s, for which he paid roughly $8,000 in rent.) How did Cuomo make an all-cash purchase of this size? After leaving office, he signed a deal in 2022 with the podcasting firm Quake, which reportedly was paying him up to $40,000 a month, but that company quickly imploded. He went on to join the advisory board of Nano Nuclear Energy in 2024, which reportedly brought him more than $2.6 million in stock options, and has been advising the offshore crypto exchange OKX on and off since 2023. (Cuomo became the co-chair of a joint venture between OKX and the New York Stock Exchange’s parent company in June, and the crypto firm announced that he had joined its board of directors in July.) The Times reported last year that he earned nearly $5 million from his consulting work in 2024. Plus that infamous book advance, which he managed to hang onto after an investigation, and which produced no further royalties whatsoever.
