Andhra teen dies by suicide after mother refuses to buy her expensive smartphone

A 15-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, following an argument with her mother over buying an expensive smartphone.The teenager, a Class 9 student, used to live with her mother and brother. The family had been living separately from the children's father as a result of marital differences between the two parents.According to the police, the girl had been persistently demanding a high-end mobile phone for the past several days, since seeing her friends use the same model.Her mother, who works as a daily wage labourer, expressed her inability to afford the costly device, leading to constant arguments between the duo. Following a fresh round of quarrelling on Thursday, the girl went to her bedroom and locked the door from the inside. When family members checked on her later, she was found hanging.The police subsequently visited the scene and recovered the body for post-mortem examination.
