An iconic The Lord of the Rings game is getting a remaster, and it surprisingly launched today. Previously, a leak suggested a new War in the North release was happening, and in an age of remasters and remakes, that at least sounded plausible. The War in the North is easily one of the best LOTR games around, and with several new movies (plus a new season of Amazon's show) on the horizon, the timing makes sense. Now, it indeed looks like the leak was true. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition is out now. The news was shared via the official PlayStation account on X, but the game will also be available on Xbox and Steam. It is available now on all of those platforms, priced at $19.99 but currently discounted at $17.99. You can read the full post below. The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North Is Out Now The Lord of the Rings: War in the North launched 15 years ago on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360, but it was eventually ported over to Mac as well. All these years later, it remains a beloved LOTR game, featuring locations and characters based on Peter Jackson's iconic movie trilogy. The description reads: A Shadow rises in the North. Step into a darker, grittier Middle-earth where war rages beyond the Fellowship’s path. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ - Legacy Edition expands Tolkien’s epic legendarium, delving into the brutal, untold story of Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean and servant of Sauron who has rallied an immense force in the ruins of Fornost. While Frodo and Samwise embark on their journey to Mount Doom, a new Fellowship must rise and defend the North. Let this be the hour when we draw swords together! At the time, War in the North presented a darker and gritter take on Middle-earth, which was pretty iconoclastic. It also lets you roam the world with a couple of friends, offering a smooth co-op experience. Understandably, these are just some of the reasons fans are so excited to see a new release on current-gen consoles. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition is developed and published by Aspyr Media, which has developed a reputation for making good remasters, so my hopes are pretty high for this one. If you're interested in checking it out for yourself — and you certainly should be — then you can purchase and download The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition right now.
