An Elite Trail Runner Died After a Fall Near One of Norway’s Most Famous Summits

Norwegian trail runner Ida Amelie Robsahm has passed away after falling while hiking near the summit of Romsdalseggen, one of Norway’s most famous and challenging hikes. The highest point is more than 4,000 feet above sea level.Robsahm, 30 at the time of her passing, was an accomplished trail runner and mountaineer. She placed second at the Marathon du Mont-Blanc in June and finished fourth at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in 2025.A member of the Asics Trail team, Robsahm was also a successful athlete on the road, finishing the 2025 Valencia Marathon—her debut over the distance—in 2:29:57.Outside of running, she was a chemistry teacher at Foss Upper Secondary School in Oslo, Norway.“Ida was a remarkable athlete and teammate,” wrote Asics on Instagram. “Her warmth and kindhearted nature touched many of us at Asics and the running community.“Our hearts are with Ida’s family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved her. She will be missed dearly.”Members of the trail running community, including Kilian Jornet and Asics Trail teammate Ben Dhiman, have also expressed their condolences via the social platform.According to NRK, reports of Robsahm’s fall, which “is said to have been several dozen metres,” were received by police on Saturday morning.
