Amruthukulam tribal post-metric hostel to reopen following year-long closure

Proactive measures are being taken to immediately reopen the tribal post-metric hostel at Amruthukulam, which has remained closed for over a year. During this prolonged period, tribal students residing at the facility were temporarily accommodated in a nearby SC category hostel. Raising the issue during the District Development Committee meeting, Vishnu Mohan MLA urged swift resolution. District Collector Anie Jula Thomas assured that repair and maintenance works have been successfully completed and the hostel will be fully operational within two weeks.Transport issuesAddressing regional transport issues, the MLA pointed out that despite the bypass opening, the lack of a KSRTC bus stop at Kallumthazham is causing significant inconvenience to local commuters. He directed the RTO, NHAI, traffic police, and KSRTC officials to conduct a joint inspection and submit a comprehensive report to the Collector. Additionally, the MLA called for shifting the Pallimukku bus stop 10 meters forward to ease traffic congestion, alongside rectifying technical errors to ensure persons with disabilities receive proper documentation, including Aadhaar cards, to access welfare benefits.The representative for Minister Bindhu Krishna requested steps to temporarily relocate the Kollam KSRTC office to the Asramam Industrial Centre to facilitate terminal construction while Minister Shibu Baby John’s representative raised concerns over the slow progress of the National Highway construction between Oachira and Kavanad, while calling for the expansion of the Chavara fire station and solutions to drinking water shortages in Chavara, Panmana, and Vadakkumthala.Efforts to tackle local traffic bottlenecks and public safety featured prominently in representatives’ demands. Minister P.C. Vishnunadh’s representative sought urgent action to expedite road widening at Kannanalloor Junction to reduce traffic jams.Addressing safety on major corridors, the representative of Kodikunnil Suresh MP proposed a joint action plan between the Motor Vehicles department and police to curb rising accidents on the Kottarakkara MC Road. Furthermore, N.K. Premachandran MP’s representative urged steps to begin the Kollam–Senkottai road development using central funds, while K.C.
