Amitabh Bachchan calls Nepal flood devastation unbearable to watch

Amitabh Bachchan has expressed concern over the devastating floods in Nepal, describing the scenes of destruction as “unbearable to watch”. In a post on his blog, the actor said the fury of nature cannot be battled and called for divine intervention as the scale of the tragedy continued to emerge.Nepal is reeling from flash floods that swept through Rasuwa and other parts of central Nepal on Wednesday after an ice-and-rock avalanche was triggered by a glacial collapse near the China border.Sharing his thoughts on the disaster, the 83-year-old wrote on his blog, “On a more serious note, the devastation of the floods in Nepal are unbearable to watch the fury of nature can never be battled with .. its respect needs the presence of the divinewe pray .. for that in itself is beyond all(sic)."The floods were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche following a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border and tore through parts of central Nepal. The torrent of water, mud and debris swept away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges, and left entire settlements buried. As the full extent of the disaster emerged, reports from the Nepal and Tibet sides of the border said at least 475 people had died and nearly 1,500 remained missing. Rescue efforts continued as travel and communication were disrupted in several parts of Nepal.Messages from the film industrySeveral film personalities, including Farhan Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut, Bhumi Pednekar, Sonu Sood, Manisha Koirala and Sanjay Dutt, expressed support and solidarity with those affected by the flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. They shared messages of grief, prayers and support, and in some cases helpline details for families and individuals in need on social media. Farhan Akhtar expressed emotional support for the victims and raised awareness about the disaster, while also sharing helpline numbers. Bhumi Pednekar posted clips and images from flood-hit areas, expressed grief and solidarity with the victims, and shared emergency helpline numbers on her Instagram story.Kangana Ranaut wrote on X, “Beyond tragic... everyone is talking about Nepal but no one really knows the magnitude of the tragedy in China. Apparently, it started from China (sic).” She also shared a picture showing Sadhguru, who went live to say that around 80 pilgrims linked to the Isha Foundation were feared missing following a catastrophic flash flood near the Nepal-Tibet border.Sonu Sood said he was stepping forward to support people who were stranded or had lost family members in the massive flood on August 26. Posting on X, he promised food, shelter and all possible assistance, and wrote, “Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter, and the strength to help you rebuild (sic).”Manisha Koirala also shared images and videos of the floods on her Instagram story, paid tribute to those who lost their lives and asked her followers to pray for her homeland. Sanjay Dutt shared an Instagram story offering his thoughts, prayers and support for everyone whose lives had been affected by the flash floods in Nepal, saying, “I stand with you in this difficult time and will always be there to support you in whatever way I can (sic).”Concern for visitors in NepalThe crisis also raised concern for visitors in the country, including Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha Mukherjee, who were stranded in Nepal after their return was delayed. Their son, Tamaghna Mukherjee, shared a video on Instagram saying he had spoken to them on the morning of August 27 and that both were out of danger.In the video, he said, “My father’s name is Kharaj Mukherjee and my mother’s name is Pratibha Mukherjee. Both of them had gone to Nepal for a shoot. I have been receiving a lot of calls from their well-wishers and from the media,” he said. He added that his parents had travelled to Pokhara for the shoot, while the area where the tragedy occurred was some distance away from them, though heavy rain in Pokhara affected filming and disrupted their plans to fly back.
