Amid cyber threats, IT ministry asked to expedite hirings

The panel's report further revealed that IndiaAI Mission's fellowship programme has struggled to attract applicants in its initial phaseNEW DELHI: The finance ministry has approved the creation of 269 additional posts for the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), but recruitment is still under way, prompting a parliamentary committee to ask the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) to expedite hiring amid rising cyber security threats.The panel's report further revealed that IndiaAI Mission's fellowship programme has struggled to attract applicants in its initial phase, with the ministry attributing the shortfall to limited awareness. MeitY said it has since launched outreach sessions with colleges and awareness campaigns during AI Impact Summit 2026 events to improve participation. The panel has sought details on whether these measures have translated into better outcomes. According to the Standing Committee on Communications and IT, the new positions span scientific, technical and administrative roles. The ministry said recruitment rules for Group A Scientist-B to Scientist-F posts have been finalised, while rules for other scientific positions are being vetted before advertisements are issued.MeitY also said seven Scientist-B vacancies from an earlier recruitment drive have already been filled, while recruitment for another 133 Scientist-B posts is at an advanced stage and advertisements are expected shortly. A proposal to recruit five Scientist-F officers is also awaiting approval.
