After helping bring anthology and standalone storytelling back into prominence on television in the early 2010s, American Horror Story has returned for a spooky milestone. The new episodes are fully embracing the genre’s association with the unlucky number 13, with series co-creator Ryan Murphy teasing an Avengers-style crossover involving protagonists from several different installments. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter and according to FX's internal data, American Horror Story season 13 has set the record for the anthology's best streaming premiere ever. AHS: 13 drew around 4 million views worldwide on Hulu and Disney+ during the four days following its premiere on September 24. Those numbers are based on total viewing minutes divided by runtime. Considering the first three come in at just 90 minutes all told, that adds up to roughly 476 million minutes watched. The numbers for AHS: 13 mark a 50 percent increase from AHS: Delicate, which aired in 2024, as well as nearly doubling the two seasons prior to Delicate. It also became the biggest Hulu and Disney+ start for any Ryan Murphy show, excluding those he executive produces for ABC like 9-1-1. More to come...
