He is based near London, UK. From now onwards, American Airlines plans 10 new or returning routes on the Boeing 777. Five are international and obviously long-haul, while five are domestic, mainly, but not always, between hubs. American is the world's fourth-largest operator of passenger Triple Sevens. Ch-aviation shows that the oneworld member has 67 airframes: 47 777-200ERs (273 seats) and 20 777-300ERs (304 and 330 seats). The type comprises virtually half of American's widebody fleet (49%). They're from three major hubs: Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Start Or Resumption Date On The 777 Route 777 Operations Comments March 27, 2027 JFK to Tel Aviv Daily 777-200ER The route was suspended in 2023 due to the war. Only the 777 has been used March 28, 2027 JFK to São Paulo Guarulhos Daily 777-200ER Replaces the 787-9, which runs this winter. The 777-200ER was last used in 2024. The 300ER last appeared in 2023 May 27, 2027 CLT to Barcelona Daily 777-200ER The route will return next year, having previously operated between 2016 and 2013, when the A330-200 was used. First time for the 777 May 27, 2027 DFW to Venice Daily 777-200ER The Triple Seven was last flown in 2025, when the route began. The 787-8 has been deployed since then, but that'll now change October 30, 2027 JFK to Rome 777-200ER It seems that the 777 may only operate on that one date, replacing the 787-9 Perhaps the most notable addition is CLT to Barcelona. This is Spain's second most popular city, an enormous tourist destination, and a major location for cruises across the Mediterranean. It is also the country's primary industrial city, known for manufacturing (including cars) and so on. Historically, it was known as the Manchester of the Mediterranean. In 2027, American will have ten routes from CLT on the 777, which is the carrier's sole widebody type from the North Carolina hub. The major destinations of Orlando and Las Vegas also feature. Widebody flights between hubs may be for positioning reasons or to provide additional uplift during periods of higher demand, such as Thanksgiving, which is on November 26 this year, along with Christmas and the New Year. Start Or Resumption Date On The 777 Route 777 Operations Comments November 19, 2026 LAX to DFW 777-200ER. Only four departures to DFW: November 19, along with February 1, 5, and 7. Five departures from DFW: December 14, 12, 25, February 5, 7 The type was last used in November 2025. Up to two daily 777 flights existed last year November 27, 2026 PHL to DFW 777-200ER. Only three departures to DFW: November 27, December 7, and January 4. Only one in the other direction: January 2 The 777 was last used in 2022 November 28, 2026 CLT to Orlando 777-200ER. Only three departures to Florida: November 28, 29, 30. The same dates in the reverse direction See comments below the table December 6, 2026 PHX to DFW 777-200ER. That date only. No 777 flights from DFW to PHX The Triple Seven was last flown in 2025, but only once. Regular 777 flights existed until March 2024 January 2, 2027 JFK to Las Vegas 777-200ER. Only one departure to Nevada on January 2. Four to the Big Apple: January 3, 5, 9, and 11 See the next section Interestingly, Cirium data shows that American has not previously used the 777 between CLT and Orlando, so it will do so for the first time. The short route, which only covers 407 nautical miles (754 km) on a great circle basis, last saw a widebody in 2020, when the A330-200 and A330-300 were flown. At times, the A330 even had two daily departures to Orlando. American's 777s Between New York & Las Vegas The 777's activity is driven by the Consumer Electronics Show, which will be in Sin City between January 6 and 9, 2027. This particularly relates to positioning aircraft in Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to operate to/from Asia for the event. For example, on January 2, AA2138 will leave JFK at 6:15 AM and arrive in LAS at 9:15 AM local time. At 11:10 AM, AA618 will leave for Tokyo Narita. On January 3, 5, 9, and 11, AA187 will arrive in Nevada from Japan at around noon. After being turned around, the operating aircraft will then leave for the East Coast at 2:55 PM, arriving back at 11:00 PM. Opening up the JFK-LAS-JFK legs means American can offset some or all of the positioning cost.
