Ambulance with pregnant woman gets stuck on damaged road for hours, newborn dies

A newborn girl died after the ambulance carrying her mother, who was in labour, was stuck for nearly two hours on a badly damaged road in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district, according to a complaint filed by the family.The incident allegedly took place on September 2 in Gadhwar village in the Bah area, after Pradeep Singh's wife went into labour. The family called a government ambulance to take her to hospital.According to the complaint, the ambulance got stuck on the severely damaged village road in the Bah area while transporting the woman. Villagers then tied the ambulance to a tractor and pulled it out.The woman eventually reached the hospital, but by then, the newborn girl had stopped breathing, the complaint said. Visuals shared on social media showed the ambulance being pulled out by a tractor on a heavily damaged road. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar said the complaint was received during Tehsil Diwas on September 5 and had been forwarded to the Public Works Department."We have sought a report from the department. Further action will be taken after the report is received," Kumar said.The incident also drew a political response from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
