Amazon's R-Rated Movie With DC's Lanterns Star Earns Stellar Rotten Tomatoes Score

Published Oct 4, 2026, 5:02 PM EDT Growing up around performers, storytelling was always central to Emma's life. Add in a nerdy older brother who introduced her to Marvel at far too young an age, and her love for entertainment led her to pursue a Journalism degree at Indiana University, where she discovered her passion for entertainment reporting. She spent nearly one year in Los Angeles covering industry stories and fully immersing herself in the world of entertainment media. Sign in to your ScreenRant account Aaron Pierre's incredible streak continues with his new R-rated movie. The Rebel Ridge star's career is only getting better as he enters James Gunn's DC universe as John Stewart in the HBO series Lanterns. With just one episode left, Pierre already has his next release lined up with Love of Your Life. His co-stars are Margaret Qualley, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Catherine Keener, Tamara Lawrance, and Corey Johnson. Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson produced the movie. Directed by Rachel Morrison and produced by Gosling, the romantic drama follows Maya (Qualley), whose chance encounter with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) quickly turns into a sweeping romance. But when the future she imagined is suddenly upended, she must figure out who she is, what she wants, and whether she can learn to love again. With 19 reviews, Love of Your Life currently holds a strong 74% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a "fresh" rating ahead of its limited theatrical release. The movie adds another positively reviewed project to Pierre's filmography in what has been a very solid year for the star. Earlier this year, he had a voice role in GOAT, which earned an 83%, while Lanterns nabbed a 92%. Aaron Pierre's Recent Movies Rotten Tomatoes Critics' Score Love of Your Life (2026) 74% GOAT (2026) 83% Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) 56% Rebel Ridge (2024) 95% Foe (2023) 25% Brother (2022) 87% Old (2021) 50% According to critics, Qualley's performance has emerged as one of the film's biggest strengths, particularly in its exploration of grief and moving forward. Rachel Morrison's direction and the movie's visuals have also received praise. However, other critics have been less convinced by the story's emotional payoff, particularly as Maya's journey moves beyond its initial romance. The response also marks another strong directorial effort from Morrison following The Fire Inside. Before moving into directing, she became the first woman nominated for the Oscar for Best Cinematography for Mudbound. Love of Your Life is her second narrative feature as director. Pierre has built an increasingly impressive filmography over the past several years, with his highest-rated movie remaining 2024's Rebel Ridge, which holds a 95%. He starred as Terry Richmond in the Netflix action thriller, with the performance helping further establish him as a leading man. His career is only going to get bigger from here as he debuted as Green Lantern's John Stewart. The role follows Pierre's previous appearance in Krypton as Dev-Em, another DC-related project. He will reprise the superhero again in the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. Gosling also has a growing presence behind the camera. Love of Your Life follows Project Hail Mary and The Fall Guy among his recent producing credits, while he is also set to serve as an executive producer on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. Interestingly, he and Pierre will reunite in the new Star Wars movie, although the latter's role is still under wraps. Love of Your Life already had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, which is why its Rotten Tomatoes score has arrived weeks before its wider release. Love of Your Life will be released in select theaters on October 7, then stream globally on Prime Video on October 14.
