(AP Photo/Mark Lennihan, File)APAmazon has been named in a lawsuit after a driver for the company allegedly hit a bus carrying a high school baseball team, resulting in brain injuries to one of the players.According to WNDU, the family of Lucas Bradshaw has filed a 13-count lawsuit in Chicago against Amazon, St. Joseph County, driver Shawn Akison and several other defendants.In 2025, the New Prairie JV baseball team was traveling to a game in two mini buses when Akison, who was driving a truck carrying Amazon freight, allegedly hit the back of one of the buses. WNDU reports seven players and two coaches were injured.“This was a tragedy, and our hearts are with the families affected as they recover and the entire LaPorte County community,” an Amazon spokesperson’s statement read. “Given this is active litigation, we have no further comment.”The report, citing the lawsuit, alleges Akison was impaired by fentanyl, had just looked at an Amazon application on his cellphone and was traveling approximately 75 mph in a 45-mph zone.“Approximately three and a half months before the New Prairie crash, he was driving erratically in a commercial box truck and was ultimately found in possession of heroin and charged with felony possession and prosecuted in Lake County, Indiana, and the prosecution was ongoing at the time this crash occurred,” an attorney for the family said.The lawsuit claims Amazon approved and continued to authorize Akison to haul its freight despite nearly 20 years of driving violations.
