However, it wouldn't be until 2015 that she would write the Netflix hit Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons. Now, the Emmy-winning writer is returning to sitcoms with a new comedy series. Amazon MGM Studios officially announced a new series, DINKS (Dual Income No Kids), an improvised multi-camera comedy co-created by Kauffman and Hannah K.S. Canter. The series stars real-life married couple June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie, Elle) and Paul Scheer (The League, Black Monday), who also executive produce, alongside series regular Jon Gabrus. Amazon describes the comedy as following Josh (Scheer) and Charlie (Raphael), a couple who, without marriage or children, decide to build a life together by renovating the "nightmare of a dream house." Kauffman explained that DINKS represents the kind of reinvention she had been waiting for before returning to the multi-camera format. It's what I hoped it would be: unique, hilarious and warm. Shooting this show is like being on a roller coaster in the dark. You have no idea where it's going to go, but you know it's going to be fun." Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global Television Peter Friedlander praised Kauffman's latest project, saying that DINKS blends the humor and heart that have defined her career with a new improvisational approach. He also highlighted Raphael and Scheer as the ideal pairing to bring the concept to life, adding that the streamer is excited to deliver a comedy that feels both modern and timeless. The series is produced by Kauffman's production company, Okay Goodnight, alongside Lionsgate Television and Amazon MGM Studios. It is also launching through an unusual partnership between Amazon MGM Studios, Lionsgate, and Publicis Media Content Innovation, a financing model that combines a streamer, a traditional studio, and a media agency to develop original television. The companies describe the collaboration as an alternative approach to greenlighting premium scripted series in an increasingly competitive market. The project has also been years in the making. Deadline reported in April 2024 that Amazon had ordered a pilot for DINKS. Before that, an earlier version of the comedy, then titled A Lot, was developed at CBS in 2023 with the same core creative team, including Kauffman, Raphael, Scheer, and Lionsgate Television, using a proof-of-concept presentation before ultimately finding a home at Amazon. After helping create one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time with Friends, Kauffman is returning to the genre that made her a television icon. This time, however, she's putting a new spin on the classic multi-camera formula through improvisation and the real-life chemistry between Raphael and Scheer. Amazon has not yet announced when DINKS will premiere on Prime Video, and production details, including a filming schedule, remain under wraps.
