A CONSORTIUM looking at buying a stake in Liverpool has approached Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos over joining their bid. Initial talks between Bezos and a syndicate of investors led by British-Indian millionaire businessman Amit Bhatia have been held, according to Sky Sports. Although one of those, Crystal Palace, is continuing to explore sale options. Bezos, 62, has previously held talks with the 2026 Super Bowl winners Seattle Seahawks, as well as the Washington Commanders. But the Amazon and Blue Origin billionaire did not go ahead with either investment. The Liverpool consortium is led by former QPR co-owner Bhatia, who is also the son-in-law of billionaire steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal. They are currently in talks to purchase a minority stake in the Anfield giants, having hired advisers to put together a deal with current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). With the money raised, the Reds were reportedly able to pay down their debt and help raise money to finance capital expenditure. But it was not used for transfers. According to the Financial Times, a deal with the consortium led by Bhatia would value Liverpool at more than £4.5bn. A spokesperson for FSG said: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.” Comment now
