‘Amazing’ Brit pop star lined up to headline Glastonbury alongside Harry Styles after receiving ‘well overdue’ invite

THE last time Sam Smith headlined Glastonbury was 12 years ago. Now I’m told Sam, who will release new album Hazel Eyes on August 21, could return to Worthy Farm next summer to join soon-to-be announced Pyramid stage headliner Harry Styles. Sign up for the Showbiz newsletter Thank you! “Festival boss Emily Eavis has already locked in so many amazing performers and Sam could be one of them if the stars align.” London-born Sam also popped up at Glasto in 2024, when the Stay With Me singer appeared as a surprise guest for Disclosure on The Other Stage. I watched as they performed their 2013 hit Latch to a massive crowd. I’ve no doubt if Sam heads back to Worthy Farm next June, fans will turn up in their droves. But whether Sam camps this time, instead of staying in a hotel, would be up for discussion. In 2024, Sam admitted the idea of slumming it — even in a posh Winnebago — was out of the question, saying on stage: “I’ve wimped out this time, I’m staying at a hotel. “That’s why I’m clean, I’m sorry. Don’t boo me. I’m sorry. I’m not as strong as you all.” Most read in Showbiz The headline performance would be the perfect warm-up for Sam, ahead of other gigs already planned next year. Sam, whose new single Oh Mother ft. The TwoCity Chorus is out now, will play an eight-date residency at the London Coliseum from September 8 to 19, and two shows at Manchester’s Albert Hall at the start of that month. Sam is looking for budding music stars to come up on stage. Working with Radio 1’s New Music Show with Jack Sanders, artists can upload their music to BBC Introducing’s Uploader from next Wednesday and select the Sam Smith tag. The closing date is August 5 Sam said: “It’s exciting to be part of this new initiative. “The discovery process for artists is so important and being able to play a part in that is fantastic.” ROBBIE’S A LEGEND Robbie Williams is also likely to return to Glasto next year Credit: Getty IT looks like Robbie Williams will also return to Glasto next year – and all the signs point to him taking the Sunday afternoon Legends slot. I had heard whispers a while ago that he was in talks for the gig, which would come 30 years after his debut solo album Life Thru A Lens hit the charts in 1997. But now I’m even more sure Robbie will do it — after he announced two shows for the week after the festival, including headlining Lancashire’s Lytham Festival. That’s a tell-tale clue because three of the past five stars to play Glasto’s Legends showpiece — Shania Twain in 2024, Diana Ross in 2022 and Kylie Minogue in 2019 — also performed at Lytham the same summer. And Robbie — who sang at Sunday’s World Cup closing ceremony in New York — has made no secret of the fact he is keen to get back to Glastonbury. He made headlines when he visited the festival at Somerset’s Worthy Farm as a punter in 1995 — then three years later as a solo sensation he played to a massive crowd at the Pyramid Stage. In 2023, Robbie said of Glasto: “It does a remarkable thing for perception, and I know there would be a lot of people there who have an oblique understanding of what I am. “But if they saw me do it, I would take their heads off. “I look forward to doing that if I get the opportunity because I know there are a lot of heads out there that, once they see what it is, they will know — instead of having a feeling it might be something it isn’t.” I’m now counting the days, Robbie. You can smash it. CHRISTINA’S GOT SILVER ALL DIRRTY Christina Aguilera sparkles in silver as she takes to the stage for her latest gig Credit: Getty Christina was playing a show in Highland, California Credit: Getty CHRISTINA AGUILERA sparkles in silver as she took to the stage for her latest gig. The Dirrty singer’s show in Highland, California was her penultimate one before she hits the studio to put the finishing touches to her long-awaited new album. Christina, who will also play a gig in the UAE in September, updated fans: “I’m in the process of a conceptual album that coincides with the documentary [about Aguilera] that’s been filmed. “But this album, I’m excited about. Conceptually, there are a lot of things that are getting birthed at the moment and coming to fruition.” It’s about time too. It’s been four years since her Spanish album Aguilera, and eight since English-language record Liberation, and us fans don’t want to wait much longer. JAMES GETS FAB FOUR TO CHILL Actor James Norton swears by ice baths Credit: Getty JAMES NORTON has revealed he got his Beatles biopic co-stars Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson into ice baths during filming. The House Of The Dragon actor swears by PBD ice baths, made popular by Patrick Bet-David – who submerges himself in near freezing water for up to three minutes to feel “energised”. On Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, out now, James, right, who plays Beatles manager Brian Epstein, said: “I just got back from Barcelona, and we had [an ice bath] in our unit base. It was so lovely! “There was a nice bath, and it was hot, and we would do it at the beginning of the day, and then sometimes some people would do it at the end of the day.” But as far as a hardcore PBD dip the Fab Four – John (Dickinson), Paul (Mescal), George (Quinn) and Ringo (Keoghan) – declined James offer. He added: “I did a couple of PBDs in the sea, but I was alone.” WALKING IT OFF Jordan Stephens headed off on a hike to help get over his relationship woes Credit: instagram/jordanfstephens Jordan is dealing with his recent break-up from Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall Credit: PA JORDAN STEPHENS has headed off on a hike as he deals with his break-up from Little Mix star, Jade Thirlwall. Earlier this year, he took a soul-searching trip to Brazil when his relationship with Jade first hit the rocks. She will spend most of August out on the road for festival shows in Europe, the US and Asia, before appearances at Reading and Leeds festivals at the end of the month. At least that should be enough to keep her busy. I wish both of them the very best. IT’S fair to say Paddy Doherty isn’t a fan of Mark Wright. The Celeb Big Brother winner wants to challenge Mark to a scrap, after a run-in with him at the TV Baftas. Paddy told me: “I’d love to fight the fella out of Essex, Mark Wright. “He’s really cocky and arrogant, above himself. “I’m a lot older than him but I guarantee I’d knock him out in the first round.” THINGS ARE LOOKING UP FOR SHAKIRA Shakira poses for a photgraph with US basketball stars Serge Ibaka and Mamadou N’Diaye Credit: Instagram AFTER meeting Shakira a number of times we can confirm that, at 5ft 2in, she really is a pint-sized pop star. But the singer looked more like a real-life Borrower as she posed for a photgraph with US basketball stars Serge Ibaka, who is 6ft 10in, and Mamadou N’Diaye, who is 7ft 6in, in New York. The unlikely trio got together backstage after Shakira’s concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Shakira would need more than a few Yellow Pages to stand on to give them a peck on the cheek goodbye. OLIVIA IS BANKING ON LOVE Olivia Rodrigo is said to be dating a private equity high-roller Credit: Getty OLIVIA RODRIGO seems to have a new man – and he sounds like a banker, literally. The US hitmaker has moved on from Brit actor Louis Partridge, star of Enola Holmes, and is said to be dating Julian Croonenberghs, a private equity high-roller who used to work at investment bank Goldman Sachs. They have been spotted a number times over the past month, most recently on Monday in Iceland, where they have been on holiday. They were seen boarding a flight to New York, where Julian is based. Drop Dead singer Olivia’s fans have also started picking up on the romance – one commented online about her liking an Inastagram post by Julian’s sister. I revealed in December that Olivia and Louis had called time on their relationship after two years together. Insiders told me Olivia had been blindsided by the break-up – but as well all know, time is the best healer. And now Olivia is laughing all the way to the banker. Their daughter Shiloh made the move last year, with her lawyer saying she had “made an independent decision following painful events.” Angelina filed for divorce from Brad in 2016.
