Amaal Mallik reveals why Arijit Singh sang for Awarapan 2 song after playback exit

Music composer Amaal Mallik has revealed why Arijit Singh chose to sing for Awarapan 2 despite stepping away from playback singing. According to Amaal, Arijit’s return had nothing to do with pressure or persuasion and came down to his connection with the song.The 36-year-old composer revealed that Yeh Awarapan was not an old track that had been recorded and kept aside. The song only existed in Amaal’s voice for nearly a year before Arijit heard it and eventually decided to lend his vocals to the project.In an interview with Pinkvilla, Amaal addressed speculation that the track had been recorded before Arijit announced his break from playback singing.“I think there is no force by any chance. He has made a decision. aur yeh decision jab ussne duniya se bola, usse 1-2 saal pehle hum sab jo kaam kar chuke the, kahin na kahin samajh gaye the ki he is uninterested towards music like this” (When he announced it publicly, all of us who had worked with him had already realized one or two years earlier that he had lost interest in this kind of film music), the Bigg Boss 19 contestant said. He added, “So when he (Arijit) heard the song, it was nothing as we promised it earlier aur koi deal thi (There was no deal). People always think koi purana recorded gaana release ho gayi (An old recorded song has been released). For a year, it was in my voice, and usually Arijit and I play our music to each other also. Toh main 5-6 gaane bhejta hun usse main jo usse achcha lagta (I send him 5-6 songs and whoever he likes from them), we work on it, this is how it is for film’s music.” Towards the end, the composer also addressed the speculation surrounding the singer's exception for the song and said that he is not viewing Yeh Awarapan as a definitive comeback or farewell. He added that if Arijit connects with another song in the future, he would be happy to hear him sing it. Amaal said that Arijit Singh has stepped away from film music, not from music itself.On January 27, Arijit announced his decision to step away from playback singing and revealed that he would no longer be taking up new assignments. Sharing the news on social media, he thanked his listeners for their unwavering support over the years and reflected on his journey."Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey (sic)," he wrote then.Meanwhile, Aawarapan 2 features Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar in key roles.
