All-woman SIT formed, whistleblower details emerge in Veeramani child sex abuse case

Tamil Nadu granite industrialist and Gem Granites founder R Veeramani faces an intensive probe under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following his arrest over allegations of minor sexual abuse. A special POCSO court rejected an initial police closure report and mandated a fresh investigation into the charges. Authorities have formed an all-woman Special Investigation Team (SIT), consisting of four senior women police officers, to probe the primary offences, an alleged institutional cover-up, and a suspected seventy crore rupees money trail. Veeramani, currently lodged in Puzhal Central Jail, has had his judicial custody extended until October 9 following a video conference court appearance. Law enforcement has also arrested close associates Shanthi, Mahendra Simhan, and employee Ganeshan for allegedly facilitating the offences and withholding digital evidence. The case gained momentum after an NGO whistleblower submitted video evidence on a pen drive to the Anti-Vice Squad, documenting the alleged abuse. Meanwhile, the legal developments have triggered intense political debate across Tamil Nadu, with leaders questioning previous administrative delays and demanding accountability for those who enabled or shielded the accused.
