The Australian heart-throb has impressed Amazon MGM bosses with his roles in Hollywood blockbusters Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, and Saltburn, as well as his “flawless” ability to mimic the English accent. But Jacob, who hails from Brisbane, wouldn’t be the first Aussie to play Bond, after George Lazenby took on the role for 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Backed by George Clooney as the “perfect guy” for the role, the 36-year-old has had plenty of stage acting experience, as well as a number of prominent roles in TV and film, including shows such as The Capture. The English actor has since received plenty of support as the next James Bond; however, there have been rumours that the star is considering pulling out of the running. TV presenter and novelist Richard Osman has since revealed the actor is being “strongly considered” for the role, leading to Lowden emerging as a top candidate for Mr Bond. The Belfast-born actor has been tipped as a leading contender to play the spy, however he addressed rumours by stating “a Bond villain would be better craic”. Tom Hardy Is it too late for this aspiring agent – as Hardy turns 48 years old Credit: Getty Long-time fan favourite Tom Hardy has appeared on lists to play the agent as far back as 2004, following his appearance in the crime film Layer Cake. The now 48-year-old is on the cusp of ageing out of the role; however, he may still have a few years left to play the part, seeing as Roger Moore was 57 years old during his final film, A View to a Kill.
