As part of Open Days, English Heritage throws open the door and gives access to sites across the country that you’d normally need to pay for. For example, Pendennis Castle in Cornwall is part of the event and you could normally expect to pay £38.59 for admission for a family of two adults and up to three children. The National Trust is also taking part in the event, meaning you can access selected sites that usually charge admission. This includes Petworth House and Park in Sussex, which typically costs £52 for a family of four to visit. Note that sites are generally operating free entry on specific dates, rather than the full nine days of the event. For instance, you can save around £30 on family admission to St Augustine’s Abbey in Kent through the promotion but that’s only on September 19. More than 100 English Heritage and National Trust sites are taking part in the event. Some sites have multiple events taking place, others it’s just on one date. And if you have health or life insurance with Vitality, you can currently claim a free seven-day trial at Nuffield gyms. The savings depend on which gym you are visiting, but you could expect to ordinarily pay a £29 one time joining fee plus around £75 a month, roughly working out at £18.75 a week. Pick up a passport from participating National Trust sites and then get a stamp every time you visit a different place between now and February. There are 137 sites taking part, some of which have free admission such as Runnymede in Berkshire. You can also get stamps as long as you visit during the opening hours of a property, including during Open Heritage events if there is a crossover.
