All Choices And Outcomes In Chapter 2 Of The Life And Suffering Of Sir Brante

Your teen years are hard enough as it is, let alone when you need to find your place in a wildly unjust social system like The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, a decisions-matter text adventure game all about surviving nobility in an angry and supernatural world. Sir Brante begins Adolescence with a few major changes of note before you begin, and you'll have between the ages of eight and 16 to make or break relationships, begin to more firmly define your stats, and make difficult decisions that will truly begin to influence The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante. We've done our best to limit them, but this guide contains spoilers for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante. Introduction What's New? Now that you're no longer a young child when you begin Adolescence at eight years old in 1126 after receiving your Sacrament with Nathan back in the first chapter, no matter which you ended up with, you're going to have plenty of new experience to check out as you grow up into your teen years. There are eight chapters to your Adolescence in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, and you'll begin to see your character's eventual adulthood paths beginning to take shape. Once you begin your Adolescence, you'll see that a variety of new menus have unlocked on the left and right sides of the book of your character's life, in addition to the tabs for Destiny, Personality, House of Brante, and Family. These are: Relations, which will keep track of any potential alliances or friendships you begin to make as you age into adulthood. This includes anyone outside the Brante family, since they're tracked over on the family tree in the Family menu. The Map of the Empire shows you the entirety of your homeland at a glance. It's broken down into the five provinces in the Empire, with major cities marked within each province. You can hover your mouse over each city and province name to learn more about it. The Brantes live in Anizotte, the capital of the province of Magra in the south of the Empire. The Province offers a more detailed look at your own province, Magra, and its current conditions. This tab gives detailed looks into the politics, peacefulness, and power within Magra, which you'll need to begin paying more attention to as you grow older. It also includes information about the dominant Church in the region. What's Changed? Not only do you have a wealth of new things to worry about as you begin to look more closely into politics in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, you'll also notice that your stats are different now that you're a little older and your personality is becoming more refined. In the Personality tab, you'll see the following changes: Nobility sees your character following the path of politics and the goings-on of Anizotte like his father's family. It leads you into the Nobleman's Path as you grow older, focusing on your pursuit of politics in the Empire. Make choices to boost your Nobility if you're trying to join Stephan in the upper class as a Nobleman. Ingenuity teaches your character to adapt and survive even if their situation isn't favorable, which is a skill that'll be critical if you're looking to go down the Lotless life path. Spirituality is about your own relationship with The Twins, and how you perceive religion in the world around you. If you're looking to go down a religious path in your character's life and aspire to become a Clergyman when you grow up, you'll want to lean into this stat more heavily than others. You've still got your Willpower stat from Childhood, though, bringing the total to four stats for your character as an Adolescent. This will remain for the bulk of the game. Additionally, you'll need to begin to pay more attention to your family's status in Anizotte, since this will impact your future going forward and even the more minute decisions you can make in your Adolescence. Reputation, Wealth, and Unity will matter more going forward than they have in the past, since your character is old enough now to become involved with such matters more directly. Potential Destiny During Adolescence Gloria's Secret Unlocks: The year after your stat requirement is met. Requirements: Ingenuity at or above 4. Decision: TBD Stephan's Disgrace Unlocks: The year after your stat requirement is met. Requirements: Nobility at or above 4. Decision: TBD Blood Tide Unlocks: In1132. Requirements: Willpower at or above 0. Decision: Return the handkerchief to Octavia when she drops it, follow Jeanne into the temple, or help Sophia escape Otton. Revelations of the Tree Unlocks: In 1131 Requirements: The "An Epiphany" Destiny from Childhood unlocked, and Experiencing the Relation at the Silver Tree. Decision: Give into the Epiphany when your class goes to the temple at the Silver Tree. Sophia Saved Unlocks: In 1127. Requirements: Have saved Sophia, which requires a Willpower above 0. Decision: Try to stop the horses, to your own detriment. Adolescence Walkthrough: First Five Years For this portion of your Adolescence as you're still aging up into a teen, you'll still have one or two decisions per year, but this number will increase rapidly as you begin to get older. For now, we've broken down ages eight through 12 in this section of our Adolescence guide for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante. 1126: The Boy Down The Street Your parents leave and Nathan is in your care, but he wanders off for a bit and comes home covered in dirt, blaming a neighborhood bully for pushing him into a ditch. You meet Tommas Guerro during this scene, who will be an important character during your Adolescence, and he says Nathan was bullying his brother first and was pushed into the ditch in retaliation. Come at Tommas and give him a beating. +1 Nobility +1 with Tommas Say your brother is to blame. +1 Ingenuity +1 with Tommas Resolve the matter peacefully. +1 Spirituality +1 with Tommas Listen to your brother first. (Only available if Nathan is Grateful to you.) +1 Unity +10 Willpower +1 with Tommas You'll need to have taken Nathan from your mother when she tried to shake him quiet as a baby during your Childhood to unlock the fourth option; it's locked in any other case. 1127: Riders On The Road You'll now be introduced to the next major character in Sir Brante's Adolescence, Sophia, and it seems all the boys have a crush on her, you included. She falls while crossing the road, directly into the path of an incoming street carts. You'll need to choose what to do when she falls. Shield Sophia from the horses. (Only available if your Willpower is greater than 0.) +1 Nobility +1 Ingenuity +1 Spirituality -5 Willpower +1 with Sophia +1 Minor Death for Sir Brante "Sophia Saved" Destiny Stay where you are. +1 Minor Death for Sophia Doing anything to alter destinies seems to require you to expend some Willpower in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, so it's usually wise to build it where you can and spend it where you have to, potentially in cases like Sophia's where you can gain a boost to your stats and relationships. If you also died last chapter when Gregor beat you upon his arrival and choose to save Sophia, though, you'll be up to two out of your four possible Minor Deaths before your True Death, but you'll need to begin being mindful of how many Minor Deaths each character sustains, since your game is over after your fourth one. 1128: Stephan's Arrival Sophia disappears for now, just before a mine explosion shakes Anziotte, which gives one Wealth of Magra point toward affluence but at the cost of one point of Order within Magra, none of which can be avoided. From there, Stephan returns with Gregor and Baron Augustin El Borne in tow during the next scene. Stephan and Gregor move to humiliate Gloria, so you'll need to choose what to do. Insult your brother. +1 Ingenuity +1 with Gloria -1 with Stephan Stephan: Bad Blood Make small talk over dinner. +1 Nobility +1 with Gregor Join Gloria in her plight. +10 Willpower +1 with Gloria These are the things that make it important to have some foresight into the Lot you plan to choose when the time comes for your Sacrament. It's helpful to build Willpower, but if you're looking to become a Nobleman when you're able, you'll need to ignore what's going on as Gloria is made to serve the table once the servants leave. 1129: A Dropped Handkerchief This chapter introduces you to the Arknians, who the books say "were born to rule over Humans," and you meet one almost immediately when Octavia Milanidas arrives, but she drops a handkerchief at your feet when she does, so you need to decide what to do with it. Give the handkerchief back to Octavia. (Only available if your Willpower is greater than 0.) -5 Willpower Octavia: Remembers You "Matters of the Heart" Desiny Stash the trophy. +5 Willpower +1 with Tommas Keep the handkerchief as a memento. +10 Willpower If you don't trigger the "Matters of the Heart" destiny now, you'll have another chance before the chapter is over, if this sways your decision in any way. 1130: A Storm Of Expectations And Sons Of The Nobility There's a brief scene at the beginning of 1130 where Robert and Gregor are arguing about a mine owner called Mayer Egmont trying to involve himself in politics, and it gives you a point of Power at the end. After, you'll begin studying more seriously, and Robert wants to send you away to school at Sir Tibor. The night before exams, a slew of things happen: you need to study both Law and Theology, but both Nathan and Tommas would like a bit of your time, so you need to choose how to spend the last night before your test at school. Focus on Law and History. +1 Nobility +1 with Robert Go help Tommas. +1 Ingenuity +1 with Tommas Study Theology. +1 Spirituality +1 with Lydia Spend a moment with Nathan. +10 Willpower +1 with Nathan Next comes Sons of the Nobility, which sees Tommas being picked on by a bully named Diederik who really hates Commoners, and you'll need to choose how to react when he Diederik tries to shake your hand given your father's nobility. Challenge Diederik to a fight. +1 Nobility +1 with Tommas Turn him over to the teachers. +1 Ingenuity +1 with Tommas Admonish the noblemen's sons. +1 Spirituality +1 with Tommas Shake Diederik's hand. (Only available if you have Tommas at less than 1.) +1 Reputation +1 with Robert -1 with Tommas Adolescence: Year 13 (1131) Several scenes will begin to happen each year now that you're older and much more involved in the regular goings-on of Anziotte and the people within it, so we'll be breaking down our guides for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante by year from this point on. To begin, you learn more about the Silver Tree you saw as a child in town with your father, but you're taking a field trip to the Tree this year and discover the slum conditions around it, despite its glory. A woman named Matilde pulls you aside and says some things that scare you, but a girl named Jeanne interrupts. Both say the other is lying and suggests you follow her as the Tree begins to whisper to you itself. The Silver Tree Follow the girl into the temple. (Only available if your Willpower is greater than 0.) -5 Willpower +1 with Jeanne Jeanne: Acquainted "Matters of the Heart" Destiny Stay with the red-haired pilgrim. +1 Spirituality -1 with Jeanne Leave them and approach the Tree. +10 Willpower Give into the Epiphany. (Only available if you got the "An Epiphany" destiny as a Child.) +1 Spirituality Jeanne: Acquainted "Revelation of the Tree" Destiny If you didn't unlock the "Matters of the Heart" destiny with Octavia, you've still got a chance to do so with Jeanne. You'll also need to have played alone as a Child if you unlocked the scene with the bugs to get the "Give into the Epiphany" option to unlock. After this scene, you move into The Shadow of the Past, where your mother tells you all about your family's history and how she came to be married to your father. She explains that Gloria will never be accepted as a Brante if the family is to persevere into nobility, and asks if you see Gloria as your sister still after all this time. The Shadow Of The Past Accept Gloria as your sister. +1 with Gloria +1 with Lydia Distance yourself from Gloria. (Only available if your relationship with Gloria is below 3.) +1 Nobility -1 with Gloria -1 with Lydia Evade the question. +5 Willpower -1 with Lydia The year proceeds with another text scene where a classmate of yours almost burns down the school using what ends up being your first exposure to magic, and you gain a point with Tommas when the scene ends. Later comes the 200-year anniversary of the Empire. Gloria goes missing, and you and Stephan go to search for her, only to find her being mocked by drunk men who try to fight you and Stephan. The Nobleman's Lot Charge the attackers. +2 with Stephan Follow your brother's orders. (Only available with Willpower above 0, and if you have Bad Blood with Stephan.) +1 Nobility -5 Willpower +2 with Stephan Call the guards. +1 Ingenuity If Stephan had the Bad Blood status with you before, he'll return to neutral here seemingly no matter what you decide to do. Another scene begins after this, where Gregor is enraged that Stephan was attacked and El Borne swears to oversee the trial himself. Your father tells you that being executed will result in a True Death no matter how many Minor Deaths someone has when it happens, which you'll want to keep in mind for your Lot and goings-on as an adult. Gloria is upset about her role in the assault, but Robert rewrites the story of what happened to exclude her, a Commoner, entirely, and arrives to tell you what to say when you testify. You'll need to choose what to say during the trial. Trial Of The Assailants Support Father. +1 Reputation +1 with Robert -1 Unity -1 with Gloria Lie to Father. +1 Ingenuity +1 with Gloria -2 with Robert -1 with Gregor Convince Father to change his mind. (Only available with Willpower above 0 and your relationship with Robert at or above 2.) +1 Unity +1 Nobility +1 Spirituality -1 Willpower -1 Reputation -1 with Gregor Adolescence: Years 14 And 15 (1132 And 1133) The following year, Gregor falls ill and laments how the Brante family's reputation is ruined. One night while Robert is gone, Gregor attempts to set the house on fire to "cleanse" himself of the sin brought on by your mother, Lydia, and her Commoner status. Agony Run away to rescue Nathan and Gloria. +1 Ingenuity +1 Spirituality -1 Wealth Gregor: True Death Stop Grandfather (Only available with Willpower above 0 and your relationship with Gregor below 2.) +1 Nobility +1 Ingenuity -5 Willpower -1 with Gregor Gregor: True Death Let it all happen as Grandfather wishes. +1 Nobility +1 Ingenuity +2 Spirituality +1 with Gregor -1 Wealth -1 with Lydia +1 Minor Death for Sir Brante Gregor: True Death This is potentially your third Minor Death, so be extremely mindful going forward if you've already died a time or two before this, since you can only have three Minor Deaths before a True Death the fourth time you perish. You'll move now into a scene of the Brante men saying goodbye to Gregor in the crypt, and Robert produces a dagger and suggests you all join a Blood Tide with Gregor as the founder of the Brante family. What you're able to do here depends on what kind of relationship you had with Gregor before his passing. Last Respects Give the dagger back. +5 Willpower +1 with Nathan -1 with Robert Bleed. (Only available if you took the Nobleman's Sacrament.) +1 with Robert "Blood Tide" Destiny Ask for Grandfather's blessing. (Only available with Nobility above 6, or your relationship with Gregor at or above 2.) +1 with Robert +1 with Nathan "Blood Tide" Destiny Next up, you'll meet Dorius Otton, a character who will become important if you're pursuing the Nobleman's Lot in this run. Sophia has been living with him since the horse incident, but she's currently missing, and you know where she is. Will you tell Otton where she is? You've got two expressly contradictory options to choose from during this scene in addition to the standard few. The Fugitive Girl Try to stop Otton. (Only available if you died for Sophia back in 1127.) +1 with Sophia Sophia: Trusting "Matters of the Heart" Destiny Bring Sophia back to Otton. (Only available if Sophia died her first death back in 1127.) +1 with Otton -2 with Sophia Sophia: Merciless Help Sophia flee. (Only available with Ingenuity above 4 and Willpower above 0.) +1 with Sophia Sophia: Trusting -5 Willpower "Matters of the Heart" Destiny Hide alone. +5 Willpower -1 with Sophia Sophia: Embittered You'll have a text scene at the beginning of 1133 where your father reveals after a public assassination that anyone given "great power" by the Twins will never be reborn, which includes emperors, vassals, dynasty heads, and church patriarchs. The scene results in the Church gaining one point and the city's Order dropping by one. You're about to turn 16 and have one more night at home before a long journey to Eterna to attempt to go to college. You need to decide who to spend your evening with, the options for which will be decided by the relationships you've fostered with your family members and key decisions you've made. To hang out with your dad, you'll need to have admitted to being guilty of pushing the noble boy over the toy soldiers back in 1123 to spare Robert from having to duel the boy's father. This leaves Robert Grateful to you, a prerequisite for the scene. To enjoy your mother's company, accepting the punishment for hitting Stephan back when he hits you in 1122 is important, since it leaves Lydia Grateful to you for understanding the way of the Lots and not making extra trouble. To say goodbye to Gloria with the time at home, she'll need to remember the time in 1122 when you comforted her after your mother burned her poetry. The Last Night Spend the time with Father. (Only available if your relationship with Robert at or above 4, and Robert is Grateful.) +2 Nobility +1 with Robert Spend the time with Mother. (Only available with your relationship with Lydia at or above a 4, and Lydia is Grateful.) +2 Spirituality +1 with Lydia Spend the time with Gloria. (Onlyavailable with your relationship with Gloria at or above a 4, and Gloria is Grateful. +2 Ingenuity +1 with Gloria Spend the time with Nathan. +10 Willpower +1 with Nathan After this, you and Tommas leave for Eterna and the chapter comes to an end.
