The highly-anticipated horror sequel is getting the release it deserves Sign in to your Polygon.com account As major corporations like Sony and Microsoft continue to push the games industry towards an all-digital future, players are left wondering whether the next title they are excited about will even get a physical release. Thankfully, Creative Assembly has some good news for everyone who has been eagerly awaiting Alien: Isolation 2. Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly's 2014 foray into the horror franchise created by Ridley Scott, was a cult hit that used incredible attention to detail to capture the same sense of wonder as the first Alien film. Alien: Isolation 2 was teased in 2024, a decade after the original game's release. As we get closer to launch, Creative Assembly has confirmed that the sequel will get a physical release. The good news was announced in a short and sweet video on the game's official X account. Creative Assembly said, "staying true to the analogue nature of Alien is one of our core pillars." Notably, the post did not clarify anything beyond saying "physical release," so let's hope that means it will actually include the game on disc or cartridge rather than being merely a box with a download code. Alien: Isolation 2 is due out sometime in 2027, though Creative Assembly has not announced an official release date. What will Alien: Isolation 2 be about? Alien: Isolation 2 seems to take place just a few months after the conclusion of the first game. The new protagonist is Blake, a member of a Weyland-Yutani survey team exploring a remote world. Blake and her crew discover the wreckage of a crashed ship, which Amanda Ripley and the Xenomorph were seen aboard at the end of the first game. While Creative Assembly insists Blake is the new protagonist, people aren't convinced we've seen the last of Amanda, who narrated a demo of the game shown to the press. Gameplay previews have focused on showing off a hostile with a dynamic weather system that a smart Xenomorph can exploit to hunt you down. Creative Assembly says the original movie is still the main inspiration, but both the story and world of Alien: Isolation 2 give me major Alien: Covenant vibes, which is a good thing. Fans have been waiting over a decade for the next chapter in the Alien: Isolation story, and it sure looks like it will be worth the wait.
